At this moment pipe industry is among leading metallurgical industries in Russia. Recent increasing of steel large diameter pipes production is obvious. The biggest consumer of large diameter pipes in Russia - company "Gazprom". Among large diameter pipes are pipes 1420 mm (55.91 inch), 1220 mm (48 inch) and 1020 mm (40.16 inch). Large diameter pipes have the same base properties as steel pipes with smaller diameter but nevertheless they require a bit different handling technology. Large diameter pipes must have more strength because they are intended for more quantity of medium. Very often inner and outer coating is used to prolong life of large diameter pipes. Coatings of pipes may be expensive but it's always reasonable. Coated large diameter pipes may be used 5 times longer than uncoated steel pipes. It allows to save money on avoiding of early dismantling and repair of corroded steel pipe. Large diameter pipes are most often used for transportation of oil and natural gas.
